The EDGE Competitive Team is KJ Dance’s accelerated intermediate to advanced competitive program, designed for dancers who are ready to be challenged technically, artistically, and personally.
EDGE bridges the gap between strong studio training and higher-level performance opportunities—preparing dancers for future intensive programs, including KJ’s Pulse Performance Company, or other advanced dance paths.

EDGE dancers train in a high-energy, supportive environment that prioritizes:

Train with Intention.
Compete with Excellence.

PERFORMANCE & COMPETITION OPPORTUNITIES

EDGE dancers perform throughout the season at two local competitions/workshops, one in-house Heart Workshop, and signature KJ performances including HolidayWay, the KJ Giving Gala, and the KJ Annual Concert. Competitions and events are intentionally selected to foster growth, confidence, and positive experiences.

EDGE is about more than competition—it’s about growth through discipline, preparation, and shared goals. EDGE dancers experience weekly intermediate/advanced technical training, team rehearsals focused on performance quality, opportunities to perform and compete locally, exposure to workshops and conventions, and a strong team culture rooted in encouragement and responsibility.

Culture and Values

EDGE dancers are expected to uphold the KJ Way by leading with Character, Competence, and Compassion. We are committed to a positive, supportive environment where dancers grow as artists and individuals.

Auditions

Placement on the EDGE Competitive Team is determined through participation in the North Texas Summer Dance Intensive. Attendance at the North Texas Summer Dance Intensive is required for Edge consideration.
All dancers interested in Edge must attend one session of the North Texas Summer Dance Intensive, offered in June or August. This intensive serves as the official audition and placement opportunity for the Edge program.

During the intensive, KJ faculty evaluate dancers on:
  • Technique and foundational skills
  • Performance quality and musicality
  • Work ethic, focus, and coachability
  • Readiness for team-based training
This immersive format allows our faculty to thoughtfully assess each dancer in a class and rehearsal setting, ensuring the best placement for both the dancer and the team.
